DEFINITION
Leucine contains not less than 98.5 per cent and not more than the equivalent of 101.0 per cent of (S)-2- amin-4-methlpentanoic acid, calculated with reference to the dried substance.
CHARACTERS

Shiny flakes or a white or almost white crystalline powder, sparingly soluble in water, practically insoluble in alcohol and in ether. It dissolves in dilute mineral acids and in dilute solutions of alkali hydroxides.
